Bruce Wong, Chun-bong’s Artist Statement

I, a Hong Kong-er, enthusiast of dance and martial art, have been spending years on researching and extracting the movement ideas from TaiChi and transform into dance. Now, I am interested in bringing these materials to interact with multiple bodies. My most recent work, Keep in touch is based on the ideas of push hand from TaiChi and stick hand from Wing Chun. Also, I would like to expand my research to other kinds of martial arts, such as Jujitsu and Aikido.

I have two extreme feelings about human being include me, which are love and hatred toward the beauty and the ugly of humanity. By crafting my work, I am looking for what is important to me as a dancer, as a martial artist and as a human being. I believe that Taoism maybe the answer, opposition always co-exists.

My works show my statement, they are different every time.

I wish my work share something we all in common but we might never aware of.

I wish my work taste like the authentic Japanese green tea and a strong espresso.

I wish my work like a love song echoes in your mind but also a punch heavily hit on your face.

Research Paper

我的research paper是寫我的前老闆Willy Tsao 曹誠淵先生。寫他與中國現代舞發展的關係。

其實這是一個易寫的題目。一，他是我前老闆，一起共事多年，我對他有一手既接觸，不是單單的看資料。二，他很樂意為我提供任何我找不到又想知的東西，包括一些故事中的故事。

但為什麼我要選寫他呢? 事緣七月的ADF，他們頒獎給楊美琦作為她對中國舞蹈教育及發展的供獻。我當然認為她當之無愧，但可是，當她在演說時，她不但沒有多謝我的前老闆(Willy當年也可幫了她很多大忙。p.s.我知一點他們後來是不和的，所以ok，明白的!!)，還要將美國人說得如何如何重要，好像比她的附出還多一樣，說到是沒有美國就沒有中國的現代舞。還要另一位我認識的ACC的成員(ACC亞州文化協會 ，由美國人辨的，目的是在推廣美國和亞州的文化交流，我當年也受過ACC的恩到美國ADF學習)說ACC的一名高官是中國的現代舞之父。

說真的，我當場"O"了嘴。

要知道普遍中港台的舞蹈界人仕都稱Willy為中國現代舞之父，雖然他不自命這稱號，也寫過文章道出這稱呼是別人給的，真的中國現代舞之父是吳曉邦。但無論是不是他，都一定不是這位ACC的高官。

這一批老一輩的美國人，就是有這樣的一種自大心態，用他們的語言說，就是政治不正確。以為藝術可以解放一個國家(不是不可以，只是不是那麼naive)，只用他們的眼鏡去看全世界。把自己放在高高的位置。

於是，我八月回港和Willy傾談一下。得知當中很多小故事，有些他已經寫在他的Blog上，有些沒有。

所以最後我決定，要在我正在就讀的Hollins MFA/ADF課程裡為我的前老闆留下一點聲音。也許以香港人對Willy的認識來說，我這份paper意義不大，但我希望我的美國同學老師可以更深入地認識我的前老闆Willy!!
